abdominal aorta, iliac bifurcation; internal iliac artery videos
Back
Forward
The two videos on this page provide a narrated tour of the branches of the internal iliac artery. The first video deals with the anterior division; the second video deals with the posterior division. It is recommended that you download them to your computer and watch them, as streaming them may take a while.

The aorta enters the abdomen through the aortic hiatus of the diaphragm (located at the T12 vertebral level) and descends just to the left of the midline. At the lower 1/2 of the L4 vertebral level, the aorta bifurcates into common iliac arteries.

The IVC is formed at the L5 vertebral level. The iliac veins are located posterior to the arteries along their course (except at the inguinal ligament where the external iliac vein has shifted medial to the artery).
